Festival Express Jam
It is a thrilling treat to get a behind the scene peak at some of your favorite musicians just hanging out. It is even more special when you can find footage of them just jamming around on their instruments. That is what the Festival Express is. In a 2003 documentary film about the three concerts that took place across Canada in Toronto, Winnipeg and Calgary, during the summer tour of 1970. Some of the most legendary and experimental bands of the time boarded that train and had what seems to be the summer trip of a lifetime. Imagine all the musical talent hanging out on long scenic train rides together, having fun, laughing, drinking, sharing touring stories, and playing music together. Packed in on the train where the likes of The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Band and Delaney and Bonnie & Friends, New Riders of the Purple Sage and, a lot more. The film includes live concert footage, as well as behind the scene footage aboard the Festival Express itself.
Here is some train footage of Janis Joplin, Jerry Garcia, Rick Danko, and a very trashed group of musicians having the time of their lives.
